GPT Image 2.5 AI Image Generator and Editor

GPT Image 2.5 is an image model from OpenAI, and the panel below gives you both of its working modes: write a prompt to create a picture from scratch, or attach up to 16 reference images and tell the model what to change. Pick 1K, 2K or 4K, choose a frame shape, and check the credit cost on the Generate button before you submit.

What You Can Do with GPT Image 2.5

Six things shape how this page works. Most of them are about control: what goes in, how large the result comes out, and how much you spend while you are still deciding.

From Sign-In to Finished Image in Six Steps

A typical run looks like this. The exact order matters less than one habit: draft small, finish large.

  1. Sign in and check your balance

Generating needs a Sonata AI account with credits. Sign in first and glance at your balance; if you plan a batch of 4K finals, top up before you start so you are not stopped halfway through a set.

  2. Start from text or add references

Leave the reference slots empty to work in text to image. To edit, add between one and 16 pictures. With references attached, the prompt is treated as instructions about those images rather than a description of a brand-new scene.

  3. Write the prompt

For a new image, describe the scene. For an edit, describe the change and what must stay as it is. You have up to 5,000 characters either way, so spell out any lettering you want rendered and where each element belongs in the frame.

  4. Choose an aspect ratio

Leave it on auto when the picture has no fixed destination yet. Pick a fixed ratio when it does: 9:16 for a phone story, 16:9 for a slide or thumbnail, 1:1 for a marketplace tile, 21:9 for a website hero banner.

  5. Pick the resolution

Stay at 1K while you explore; it is also the only size for 27:16, 16:27, 9:8 and 8:9. Move up to 2K or 4K once the composition works. The credit figure on the Generate button updates with every change, so you always know the price.

  6. Generate and open your history

Press Generate and wait for the result. Each finished image lands in your history, where you can download it or attach it again as a reference for the next round. If the job fails, the credits are refunded automatically.

Where Multi-Reference Editing Pays Off

Some jobs need a fresh picture, others need an existing one reworked. These are the situations where each mode tends to earn its place.

New-Image Prompts vs Edit Instructions

The same sentence can work well in one mode and poorly in the other. These tips are about telling the model which kind of job it is doing.

GPT Image 2.5 FAQ

Answers about modes, limits, credits and what to do when a result is not quite what you expected.

01

When should I use text to image, and when should I add references?

Use text to image when the picture does not exist yet and words can describe it. Add references when something specific has to appear, such as your product, a character, a logo or a real room, or when you want to change an existing photo. References are also the easiest way to show a style that is hard to put into words.

02

How many reference images can I attach, and do I need all 16?

Editing mode accepts up to 16. You rarely need that many: a handful of well-chosen images with a clear prompt gives the model a cleaner job than a pile of loosely related ones. Add another picture only when it contributes something the others do not.

03

Why can't I choose 27:16 or 9:8 at 2K or 4K?

The four ratios 27:16, 16:27, 9:8 and 8:9 are offered at 1K only. If you need a larger file, pick the closest standard shape instead, such as 16:9 for a wide frame or 1:1 for a near-square one, generate at 2K or 4K, and crop to the exact proportion afterwards.

04

Should I draft at 1K and finish at 4K?

For most projects, yes. Credit cost depends on resolution, and the lower setting is the economical way to test wording, layout and ratio. Keep in mind that a 4K run is a new generation; to stay close to a draft, attach it as a reference and ask for the same image at the larger size.

05

How many credits does one image cost?

It depends on the resolution you choose. The exact figure appears on the Generate button before you submit and updates when you switch between 1K, 2K and 4K. We do not print fixed prices on this page, because the button always shows the current number.

06

What happens to my credits if a generation fails?

They go back to your balance automatically, with nothing to claim or request. The refund covers jobs that fail; when an image does finish but misses the mark, the tips on this page about clearer instructions are the way to improve the next attempt.

07

My edit ignored part of the instructions. What should I change?

Make the scope explicit: name the element to change, describe the change and list what must stay. If several references are attached, say which image each element comes from. Run the revised prompt at 1K, compare it with the earlier result, and adjust one thing at a time.

08

How does this page differ from the GPT Image 2 and GPT Image 1.5 pages?

Each page runs its own model with its own options. This one gives you GPT Image 2.5 with text to image and reference editing for up to 16 pictures, output from 1K to 4K and 13 aspect ratios. If you already use the other two, try the same prompt on each and keep whichever result suits the project.

09

Where are my finished images kept?

Every image is saved to the generation history on this page. From there you can download it or attach it as a reference to keep working on it. If a site you upload to insists on JPG and your file is WebP, the WebP to JPG converter linked above handles the switch.

10

Is Sonata AI part of OpenAI?

No. Sonata AI is run independently and has no affiliation with OpenAI, which neither endorses nor sponsors this site. GPT Image is a trademark that belongs to its owner, and the name appears here only to identify the model behind this generator.
