Add Audio to Video Without Uploading It

Got a clip that came out silent, or a phone video whose sound you would rather not keep? This free tool lets you add audio to video directly in your browser: pick a video and a track, replace or mix the original sound, set both levels and save an MP4. Your files never leave your device, and no account is needed.

Video

MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 500 MB. You can also drop it here.

Audio

MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC or OGG, up to 100 MB. You can also drop it here.

Formats, Limits and Output

What the tool accepts and what it gives back. If a file falls outside these limits, export a smaller or converted copy first.

Video input
One file in MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 500 MB.
Audio input
One file in MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC or OGG, up to 100 MB.
Sound modes
Replace the original sound with the new track, or mix the two together.
Volume
Separate sliders for the original sound and the new track, each from 0 to 200%. 100% leaves a level unchanged.
Ending
Optional fade-out at the end of the result.
Length
The result always matches the video. Longer audio is cut at the last frame; shorter audio can be looped or left to run out.
Output file
MP4 with an AAC audio track, saved straight to your device, with no watermark.
Picture
H.264 video in an MP4 or MOV file is copied without re-encoding. Other video formats are re-encoded to H.264, which takes longer.
Cost and privacy
Free, with no account and no credits. Processing runs on your own device; nothing is uploaded to Sonata AI.

Built for Finishing Clips You Already Have

Plenty of videos only get their sound after the fact: an AI render that came out mute, a screen capture without narration, a holiday clip full of wind. These are the parts of the tool that handle that job.

How to Add Audio to Video in Six Steps

The whole job happens on this page. Keep the tab open until your download is ready.

  1. Add your video

Choose an MP4, MOV or WebM file of up to 500 MB. On first use the browser also fetches the processing engine, so the very first run takes a little longer than the ones after it.

  2. Add the audio

Pick the track you want to hear: an MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC or OGG file of up to 100 MB. It can be music, a voice-over you recorded yourself or a single sound effect.

  3. Choose replace or mix

Replace when the original sound is missing, noisy or simply unwanted. Mix when you want to keep it, for example dialogue or street ambience, and add the new track alongside.

  4. Set levels, fade and loop

Move the two sliders until the balance feels right, remembering that 100% means unchanged. Turn on the fade-out for a gentle ending, and the loop switch if your track is shorter than the video.

  5. Create the file

Start processing and watch the progress bar. If you notice a mistake, cancel, fix the setting and start again. Do not close or reload the tab while the job is running.

  6. Download and check

Save the MP4 to your device and play it through once before sharing it, paying attention to the first seconds, the loudest moment and the last few seconds.

Questions About Adding Sound to a Video

Short answers on privacy, quality, formats and the rights to the music you use.

01

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Both files are read and processed by your browser on your own device, and nothing is sent to Sonata AI's servers. The one thing downloaded is the processing engine, roughly 30 MB of WebAssembly from a public CDN, which the browser caches so later runs start faster.

02

Is it free, and do I need an account?

It is free to use, with no account, no credits and no watermark on the result. You open the page, add your two files and download the MP4. AI video generation elsewhere on Sonata AI uses credits, but this audio tool does not.

03

Can I use any song I like?

Only if you have the right to. You are responsible for the audio you add. Safe sources are your own recordings, music you have licensed and royalty-free libraries whose terms cover your use. Commercial songs usually need permission, and platforms may mute or remove videos that use them without it.

04

What is the difference between replace and mix?

Replace removes the video's original sound and keeps only your new track. Mix plays both at once, each at the level you set. In mix mode the original-sound slider decides how much of the camera audio survives; at 0% the result is effectively the same as replace.

05

What if the audio is longer or shorter than the video?

The output is always as long as the video, and any extra audio is cut off at the end. If your track is shorter, switch on loop to repeat it until the last frame; otherwise the remaining part is silent in replace mode, or carries only the original sound in mix mode.

06

Will adding audio reduce the video quality?

Not when the video is H.264 in an MP4 or MOV file: the picture is copied without re-encoding, so it stays exactly as it was. Other formats, WebM for example, are re-encoded to H.264, which takes longer and compresses the picture once more.

07

Which files work, and why won't mine load?

The tool takes MP4, MOV or WebM video up to 500 MB and MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC or OGG audio up to 100 MB. A file can still fail if it uses an unusual codec behind a familiar extension, or if it is so large that the browser runs out of memory. Exporting a shorter or smaller version usually helps.

08

Why is the first run slower?

The first time, your browser has to download the processing engine, about 30 MB, before it can begin. The engine is then cached, so on later visits the tool gets going faster, unless the browser cache has been cleared in the meantime.

09

Can I close the page while it is working?

Keep the tab open until the download is ready. Closing or reloading it stops the job, and because nothing is stored on a server, there is nothing to resume afterwards. If you want to change a setting, cancel, adjust it and start again.

10

Can I add more than one audio track?

Each run takes one audio file. For music plus a separate narration, process the first track, download the MP4, then load that file again and mix in the second. The first result is already H.264 MP4, so on the second pass the picture is copied rather than re-encoded.
